Dimitrios Pavlou is Professor and Chair of Advanced Mechanics of Solids at University of Stavanger, Norway, and Coordinator of the Fatigue and Structural Integrity Group. In 2014 he was elected full member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences. He has been awarded prestigious awards, like the Hojjat Adeli award “for Innovation in Computing”-Wiley 2022, Robert Moskovic Award “for outstanding achievements in Structural Health Monitoring”-European Structural Integrity Society 2024, Halcrow Prize-Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), UK 2024, and several recognitions of the impact of his work in Mechanical and Structural Engineering, e.g. Top Downloaded Article Awards-Wiley, Key Scientific Paper Awards - Advances in Engineering, etc.

Pavlou is Associate Editor of the journals “Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering (2023-2026), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)", “Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation (2022-today), Taylor & Francis", “Maritime Engineering (2022-today), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)", “Alexandria Engineering (2024-2025), Elsevier", and Editorial Board member of the impactful journal “Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (2021-today), Wiley". He is the author of two books published by Elsevier, one research monograph published by Destech publications, and Editor of several conference proceedings published by Springer. Pavlou is the Chairman of the Olympiad in Engineering Science, an international congress and contest aiming to disseminate and evaluate the recent advances in engineering in modern research topics in the 21st century. 

At the early stage of his career, he focused on the solution of Boundary Integral Equations of cracked dissimilar elastic media and he derived fundamental solutions for Mesh Reduction Methods in Boundary Elements. Apart from crack problems, Pavlou has provided fundamental solutions for anisotropic axisymmetric shells under transient loads by accounting the hydrodynamic and material damping effects, and in the last years his research efforts are oriented towards to Structural Health Monitoring for improving the structural safety of engineering structures, especially oil rigs, offshore wind turbines and nuclear reactors. He has developed the theory of the S-N fatigue damage envelope that is a generalization of the linear, double-linear, and non-linear fatigue damage models and he has published impactful works in fracture mechanics, metal fatigue and creep, structural dynamics, anisotropic materials, and solid-structure interaction.
