MASTER International Music Performance Exchange Semester (MUM-INTSEM2)

Content

This course code covers both inbound students to UiS, as well as UiS students who choose to travel abroad. For inbound students, the course will mainly include performance activities aimed at MA level, including principal instrument and ensemble activities. For outbound UiS students, the student will primarily follow teaching programmes at the corresponding level at the exchange institution and through this continue their artistic development that has begun at UiS. It will be possible to have several academic arrangements for the course International Semester, both for inbound and outbound UiS students, within the same framework as the parallel course code MUM201- Master Project at UiS. In addition, the course International Semester may also include theoretical and/or pedagogical components, but the performing area must account for at least half of the total workload.

General competence

• Develop an understanding of another country's culture in general and music education in particular.

Knowledge

• Put their performing activities into an international perspective, recognize and reflect on music traditions from different parts of the world and be able to put these in a geographical, historical and stylistic perspective.

Skills

• Exchange stays shall enable the student to be part of international social networks, handle practical living and study conditions abroad and strengthen language knowledge.
• Plan and perform a public concert within the framework of the partner institution for interaction, such as chamber music, orchestral work, ensembles, soloist performance, etc.
• Conduct artistic dissemination in an international environment and engage in relevant performing practices

Mandatory activities

The student is obliged to comply with the mandatory work requirements and comply with the current rules at the place of study.

Method of work

The work and teaching methods will vary from place to place, but in general, teaching in the main instrument will normally include one-on-one teaching with close follow-up and master classes, as well as ensemble/chamber music.

Incoming students are assigned a supervisor at UiS, who follows up on their work during their stay abroad.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
