The course addresses the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) considered from a leadership perspective. The primary objective of the CSR course is to create knowledge and stimulate awareness about the CSR phenomenon, as a basis for making decisions about, and incorporating CSR in the very fabric of a contemporary business.

Content

The course aims to create knowledge and stimulate awareness about CSR from a management perspective, as a basis for making decisions about, and developing, CSR in a business. The course will provide basic knowledge about the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR), developments and current perspectives of CSR, as well as central theories and models within the field.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Understand central aspects of CSR and have knowledge about the role of leadership in implementing and sustaining CSR in a corporation
  • Understand the role of organizations (organizational theories) in promoting socially responsible activities and operations
  • Be knowledgeable about an organization's different stakeholders (stakeholder theories) and about the interaction between organizations and stakeholders (stakeholder management)

  • Be able to analyze ethical dilemmas related to an organization's working and relation to the society
  • Be able to analyze central challenges related to CSR and apply strategic tools to promote CSR in an organization
  • Be able to develop suitable CSR strategies for an organization

Coursework requirements

Mandatory activity

Oral presentation on given topic individually or in group - 10-15 min

The project should be presented in class by all members of the group during one of the lectures. The oral presentation is required to be admitted to the home exam.

Method of work

Beside lectures, the students should work with, discuss and present relevant cases and news stories in groups and in plenum. Parts of the lectures that focus on CSR management models will be held in seminar form where discussion in class is emphasized. Lectures, guest lectures and presentations will be in English.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years.
