KCE shares research-based knowledge to inspire interest in and use of knowledge summaries.
The Knowledge Centre for Education (KCE) is a Norwegian national research centre, established and funded by the Ministry of Education. Our users and primary target groups are leaders, researchers, and decision-makers across the education sector.
KCE’s main tasks are to study existing research by conducting systematic knowledge reviews for the education sector. The centre also works to further develop the knowledge review methodology. In addition, KCE contributes to building expertise in synthesising and summarising research findings in collaboration with Norwegian researchers and international partners in the field.
Background and History
KCE was officially established in 2013 as a unit within the Research Council of Norway. In 2019, the centre was relocated to the University of Stavanger (UiS).

In 2018, the Ministry of Education decided that the centre should be moved out of the Research Council of Norway to a new host institution outside Oslo. A selection of universities was invited to apply to take on the role of host, and the University of Stavanger’s application was successful. From 1 September 2019, KSU became part of UiS and is physically based at Ullandhaug campus.
The host institution, UiS, decided to organise KCE under the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Humanities. The centre has its own board, appointed by the faculty board, and reports annually to the Ministry of Education on its activities.
