Welcome to the Knowledge Centre for Education

The Knowledge Centre for Education conducts systematic reviews and disseminates research-based knowledge for the education sector.

The Knowledge Centre for Education (KCE) is a national research centre, established and funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research.
The centre’s users and primary target groups are leaders, researchers, and decision-makers across the education sector.

KCE’s core tasks include conducting systematic reviews of existing research for the education sector. The centre also works systematically to further develop the genre of evidence syntheses. In addition, KCE contributes to strengthening competence in synthesising and summarising research findings, in collaboration with Norwegian researchers and international actors in the field.

Background and History

KSU was officially established in 2013 as a unit within the Research Council of Norway. In 2019, the centre was relocated to the University of Stavanger (UiS).

KSU is located at the University of Stavanger.

In 2018, the Ministry of Education decided that the centre should be moved out of the Research Council of Norway to a new host institution outside Oslo. A selection of universities was invited to apply to take on the role of host, and the University of Stavanger’s application was successful. From 1 September 2019, KSU became part of UiS and is physically based at Ullandhaug campus.

The host institution, UiS, decided to organise KCE under the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Humanities. The centre has its own board, appointed by the faculty board, and reports annually to the Ministry of Education on its activities.

Our goals are to contribute to knowledge- and research-based practice, improve the quality of education, and strengthen the knowledge base for policy decisions.
