Researchers at UiS have developed an energy converter that creates electricity from sea currents and river flows.
The reason of 98% of the failures of mechanical systems and 60% of the failures of structures subjected to variable loading conditions is fatigue.
Heating and cooling in buildings and industry are responsible for half of energy consumption in Europe. They have also put a severe pressure on the Norwegian electricity grid. There is a lot of waste heat released from data centres and other industrial processes in Norway, which is poorly mapped and utilized.
The paper was awarded at the 40th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE2021).
