Information on data protection and use of cookies

The University of Stavanger follows the current privacy regulations and principles for privacy after the GDPR law came into effect on July 20, 2018. We have implemented new consent functionality that informs about and ensures compliance with the new stricter rules for the use of cookies that came into effect on January 1, 2025.

We aim to ensure that your privacy is protected and have the following overarching principles for the processing of personal data:

  • The University of Stavanger shall strive for a high level of privacy and data protection and respect the rights of those from we register data from.
  • UiS shall comply with laws and regulations for the storage and security of data.
  • We will document and deal with any irregularities or breach on security.

A "cookieless" website

UiS uses cookies on its websites, but after new rules for the use of cookies were introduced on January 1, 2025, we have significantly reduced the number of cookies used. We now operate a so-called "cookieless" site. This means that we do not store any information that can in any way be traced back to the user.

We use them for general and necessary functionality on the websites and for the consent tool Klaro.

We also use cookies for external content from third-party providers such as YouTube and Vimeo. You can choose to decline these.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a text file that is downloaded and stored on your computer when you visit a website. The cookie can be used to store previous user settings, record which pages you visit, and what choices you make while using them. The University of Stavanger uses Matomo Analytics to collect information about visits to our website. Matomo Analytics is a "privacy-first" solution.

Matomo Analytics is designed to comply with strict privacy laws. By using Matomo, we ensure that all collected data remains private and is owned by us, not a third party like Google Analytics.

Matomo operates cookieless and does not use cookies.

To protect your anonymity, we do not measure the last two digits of visitors' IP addresses using Matomo's anonymization function. IP masking occurs as soon as data is received.

The University of Stavanger uses Silktide to find and fix issues related to technical accessibility and universal design.

Silktide helps us get an overview of broken links and potentially poor content, as well as information about user experience in the form of click and heat maps.

Silktide operates cookieless and does not use cookies.

We use third-party Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) such as Bunny.net to deliver our website content quickly and securely.
These services may process certain data such as anonymized IP addresses, browser headers, and geolocation data to optimize performance and security.

Privacy policy for Microsoft Dynamics CRM at UiS

University of Stavanger use the platform Microsoft Dynamics CRM to communicate with alumni and external contacts, and to manage events and newsletter. UiS is s responsible for the processing of personal data that we register, process and store in connection with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

This privacy policy provides you with information about how we process your personal information, what rights you have and who you can contact with inquiries concerning your personal information.

Personal information in Microsoft Dynamics CRM at UiS.

Personal information is all forms of information and assessments that can be linked to you as an individual. UiS uses Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a system when we process personal data about you for alumni, external relations, events and newsletters. Information that is processed is name, contact information, education, place of work, commitment, relevant subject areas, events, newsletters and consents that you have given. Which information is stored on you depends on which role you have been associated with in the system. This information is also integrated with other systems, but only where necessary to achieve the purpose of the processing.

The system is used, among other things, to ensure that UiS registers personal data in one place and in a secure area. The system also ensures that your personal data is only used for legally specified purposes. Personal data processed in this system must only be shared with persons who have been granted specific rights and these persons are subject to a duty of confidentiality. The personal data will not be shared with a third party.

Geographical storage of personal data.

UiS assures that your personal information is stored in accordance with the privacy regulations' rules for geographical storage. Any storage in third countries is done legally through the EU's accepted transfer mechanisms. If it is desired with specific information about where the individual personal information is stored, you can contact the privacy representative, please contact personvernombud@uis.no

The security of your personal information.

UiS conducts regular risk and vulnerability analysis to secure your personal information. In addition, security measures have been implemented, such as access controls to prevent more employees than necessary from gaining access to your personal information. All registrations are logged.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data that is in Microsoft Dynamics CRM at UiS. If your personal information is incorrect, you have the right to have it corrected or to correct/update it yourself via the system. You can withdraw your consent at any time or ask us to delete your personal data contained in Microsoft Dynamics at UiS. You can either do this by pressing unsubscribe or by contacting alumni@uis.no.
