Content

The student will learn the basics of storytelling, production planning, cinematography, editing, audio recording and mixing, and introductory sound design for the picture.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The students will have

  • Knowledge about of the audiovisual narrative in order to be able to create and carry out their own exam film.
  • an understanding of how one creates and uses the various audiovisual tools within the fields of cinematography, editing, storytelling and sound, as well as the basic theory behind these tools.

Skills

The students

  • Will learn to use their knowledge throughout practical work and develop their craft within the fields of cinematography, editing and sound.
  • Should be able to complete an audiovisual production from the planning stage to the finished film.

General competence

The students

  • Will have acquired basic theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as an understanding of the audiovisual narrative as a subject.
  • Will have learned how to work in a team and relate professionally to his/her professional task.

Coursework requirements

Obligatorisk øving
Throughout the semester, the students will have practical and theoretical assignments relevant to the main areas covered in this subject: cinematography, production planning, storytelling and sound. All these assignments are obligatory unless clearly stated otherwise, and need to be passed prior to the exam. In order to qualify for the exam in this course, the student cannot have more than a total of 20% absence (including valid and non-valid absence). Valid absences - which are due to illness or other compulsory absence - cf. Regulations on studies and examinations at UiS § 2-11 - must be documented. Non-valid absences cannot exceed 10%. The absence rule applies to all mandatory activity.

Method of work

Lectures and workshops. Seminar based learning.

The students should be aware that subject matters discussed in the classroom and in workshops are also relevant subjects for the exam.

The students should also be aware that this is a time-consuming study. Therefore it might be difficult to combine studying with work.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course coordinator, the student representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
