Kort om meg

I am an Associate Professor associated with the Ecotoxicology and Environmental Monitoring research group at the University of Stavanger (Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Engineering). The core of my research focuses on seaweed biology and ecophysiology since my master’s degree. I completed my PhD at the University of Stavanger in 2025, titled "Advancing sustainable cultivation of Palmaria palmata through the One Health concept".

I employ a variety of methods and endpoints to assess a) the vulnerability of seaweeds to climate change and anthropogenic disturbances; and b) basic biological processes and their effects on potential uses of seaweeds in food systems. I use a combination of standardised cultivation techniques and bioassays, along with modern omics methods, to derive novel mechanistic insights. Alongside this work, I am part of a project using machine-learning (ML) tools to automate histopathological assessment of marine organisms for environmental monitoring. I have a keen interest in marine environmental science and am striving to develop in this field and integrate it with my seaweed research.

I cherish the opportunity to cooperate and exchange knowledge with researchers from diverse backgrounds and have enjoyed collaborations across the Nordics, Brazil, and South Africa.
