Bio
Reidar Mosvold er professor i matematikkdidaktikk ved Universitetet i Stavanger. Forskningen hans fokuserer særlig på matematikkundervisning og utvikling av matematikklærere. Mosvold ser på matematikkundervisning som en profesjonell praksis, og et hovedfokus i forskningen hans dreier seg om å studere de matematiske kravene som undervisningen stiller. Det siste tiåret har Mosvold utforsket ulike aspekter ved det komplekse undervisningsarbeidet i matematikk, egenskaper ved matematikklærere som påvirker dette arbeidet (særlig kunnskaper og oppfatninger, men også identitet og språklige aspekter) og utvikling av matematikklærere i grunn-, etter- og videreutdanning. For tiden er interessene hans særlig knyttet til følgene aspekter ved forskning på matematikkundervisning: 1) Å lede matematiske diskusjoner: dette er en sentral praksis i undervisningsarbeidet. Det handler om å kommunisere matematisk, og forskningen til Mosvold fokuserer blant annet på hvordan matematiske diskusjoner kan initieres, hvordan læreren kan engasjere elevene slik at det blir reelle diskusjoner, hvordan læreren kommuniserer matematiske ideer, hvordan eksempler og oppgaver brukes i diskusjoner, ved å forklare det matematiske innholdet og ved å stille produktive matematiske spørsmål. 2) Hva det vil si å lykkes i matematikk: dette aspektet ved forskningsprogrammet fokuserer både på matematikken som disiplin og elevenes læring i matematikk. Mitt hovedfokus innenfor dette store og omfattende feltet er hvordan lærere posisjonerer elevene og deres læring i matematikk. 3) Metoder for å studere matematikkundervisning: det tredje området i forskningen til Mosvold handler om metoder for å studere matematikkundervisning. Forskning på (matematikk)undervisning har utviklet seg i en periode på om lag 50 år, og i løpet av denne perioden har forskere anvendt ulike metoder og ulike paradigmer for å studere undervisning. For å gjøre videre framskritt i forskning på matematikkundervisning er det nødvendig å kritisk analysere og reflektere over metoder for å studere undervisning samtidig som en reflekterer over teoretiseringer av undervisning. Gjennom flere år har Mosvold og kollegaer i forskergruppen i matematikkdidaktikk ved Universitetet i Stavanger bidratt til forskningen på dette feltet både nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Mosvold har gjennom flere år samarbeidet med et anerkjent forskningsmiljø ved University of Michigan, og han har samarbeidet med forskere fra USA, Canada, Malawi, Indonesia, Sør-Korea og Danmark. Han har siden 2015 vært co-leader for en arbeidsgruppe som fokuserer på «Mathematics teacher and classroom practices» i den europeiske forskerkonferansen Congress of European Research in Mathematics Education (CERME), og han har siden 2010 vært medlem i redaksjonsgruppen i det internasjonale tidsskriftet The Mathematics Enthusiast. I 2017-2018 var han gjesteforsker ved University of Michigan (USA) med stipender fra Fulbright Foundation og Norges Forskningsråd.
