Why did you choose to study Master in English Literature and Literacy?

I chose to study a Master in English Literature and Literacy because primarily I had already done a BA in English Language and Literature. I really enjoyed studying this course. That is why I wanted to keep working with literature. I chose to study the MA because,I did not know what else I wanted to do, so I thought that I might as well do something I enjoy. Also i found out that if I take a BA and MA all I need is just a year course in PPU to be a qualified teacher.

Why did you choose your specialization

The choice was between focusing on the literature or literacy part of the course. I decided to focus on literature because those were the classes I enjoyed the most. I like literature and I think it is fun to work with short stories and novels in depth.

Why did you choose Stavanger and UiS?

The reason I chose Stavanger and UiS is simple. I grew up in Stavanger and this university was the closest. I chose to continue at UiS after my BA because I knew there were very competent and knowledgeable professors, who love teaching the courses. It made me excited to get to continue to work with them.

How does a typical day at UiS look for you?

A typical day for me starts at Bokkafeen in the morning to get a cup of coffee. Then I head to the library and sit there for a couple of hours, studying and sometimes socializing. Around noon I usually have a seminar, so either I head straight there or get some food on the way. After the seminar I head home and continue the schoolwork there.

Do you have any memories from your time here till now?

Honestly, I have not really spent that much time attending social events here, though I know there are many. But I have memories of sitting at the library with by friends, either studying for a seminar or preparing for exams.

Do you have any advice for future students?

It is a cliche advice, but make sure to always come prepared to lectures or seminars. You get so much more out of your time there if you have read about the subject beforehand and can contribute to the discussion.

What do you like to do when you are not studying?

In my free time I like to read and discover new authors. Other than that, I like to hang out with my friends. When we all find time to hang out together, we usually watch a movie or play a board game or might make some food. When the weather gets warmer, I like to go for walks and enjoying the nature. A During spring and summer, I like doing garden work, planting as many flowers as I can fit into my raised garden bed. t the moment I am also crocheting a full-sized blanket, which is taking time, but right now I am about halfway done.

Do you know what you are going to do after you are done with your degree?

To be honest, I don't really know what I want to do when I finish. But It is good to know that I can become a teacher if I want to. When I applied to study 5 years ago, I didn't feel quite ready to take on a teaching role. But now I find it very reassuring to know that I am only one year away from becoming a qualified teacher. So my plan for the fall is to see what jobs I can find out there and hope for the best. If not, I know that there is a hight possibility that I will return to UiS in a year's time to take the PPU.
