  • Name and age: Gunnar Røen, 50 years old
  • My home is: Kolbotn
  • I'm currently studying: ConductIT

I chose this study because:

I chose this study because I wanted to further develop myself as a conductor. I participated in the Conductors' Week (Dirigentuka) in Stavanger, received information about the programme, and thought it would be a good fit for me. And it certainly has been. A very good programme.

How is the student environment and network during the study?

I find that both the student environment and the network are very good, even though I am not at the study location in Stavanger on a daily basis. Nonetheless, I feel that it is a good environment.

Get to know the other students, and the supervisors on the course, to build a network, a circle of acquaintances within the field of conducting, which can be useful later on.

This is my dream job:

Conduct professional ensembles and be able to make a living from it.

In addition to studies, I work as:

I work as a music teacher and conductor alongside my studies. It is very feasible to combine work with the ConductIT programme.

These are my three best tips to the future students:

My three best pieces of advice for today's applicants are to make the most of your studies by:

  1. Participating in all on-campus gatherings; it's important to meet other students for socializing, but also to learn from them and be able to share your own knowledge.
  2. Preparing thoroughly for all online meetings and on-campus gatherings by being familiar with the repertoire that will be worked on.
  3. Getting to know the other students, and the supervisors on the course, to build a network, a circle of acquaintances within the field of conducting, which can be useful later on.
