Welcome to the Ear Training Pedagogic Conference in Stavanger!

Link to registration

At the conference, we have two days of individual presentations and discussions on the following themes:

  • Entrance exams in different countries/regions/institutions
  • The role of music theory in higher music education in general

Many countries such as Norway use a national music theory and ear training test as a part of the entrance examination process. The content and level of this test has strong implications toward various levels of music education: What the students are expected to know when they enter the university, largely dictates the level of education we can give them during the often limited time reserved to music theory and ear training. The content of the entrance exam also largely dictates the content of teaching in lower educational levels. We also want to address the question as to what role music theory and ear training play in (higher) music education in general.

The confirmed presenters and participants come from different music institutions in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, and Spain. Conference languages are Scandinavian and English.

Registration and payment by 9th of February
