Please note for students at the Faculty of Performing Arts

This application deadline does not apply to you.

Students at the Faculty of Performing Arts may apply for exchange only once per year. The application deadline is 15 January, and the application applies to exchange during the following academic year – either for the autumn semester, the spring semester, or the entire academic year.

Where and when can you go abroad?

Use the Exchange Map under 'Find your exchange opportunities' to find out which options are available in your study program

Check that the institutions you are interested in offer relevant courses or placement opportunities for you. Not all recommended institutions are suitable for every field of study or specialization.

UiS has agreements with various institutions in different countries, in addition to those recommended in your study program. You can apply to some institutions that are not recommended in your program, as long as they are open to all UiS students and offer relevant courses. Visit our website to learn more about semester exchange opportunities.

In other words, you can choose institutions that are either:

  • recommended in your study program, or
  • open to all UiS students (provided you find relevant courses).

You should discuss your options with your student adviser

If you are considering applying for an exchange to institutions outside Europe, please be aware that these institutions generally require the payment of tuition fees.

UiS occasionally has a small number of tuition-free spots available through agreements with certain partner institutions, but these are very limited and cannot be guaranteed. These spots are highly competitive and may be reserved for students from specific faculties or study programs.

Therefore, as a general rule, you must be prepared to pay tuition fees if you choose to apply for an exchange at such institutions.

How to apply?

Log in to the Digital Student Service Desk and start the Exchange Guide. It's non-binding.

You must register your application for exchange in the applicaton portal Søknadsweb

Take a look at our guide outlining the steps to apply for and go on exchange.

Please contact the International Office via the Exchange Guide if you have any questions.

Student fees

All students going on exchange must pay the semester fee at UiS and may also be required to pay administration and/or service fees at the host institution.

Students participating in exchange programs through Erasmus+ do not pay tuition fees at the host institution.

Please note that institutions outside Europe, particularly in the USA and Australia, usually require tuition fees. If you are eligible for financial support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), you may apply for additional funding to cover tuition fees.

International students who pay tuition fees at UiS must continue to pay these fees during their exchange period and are not exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution.
