Dear all,

On Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, PhD candidate at Faculty of Arts and Education, Kenneth Solberg-Harestad will be defending his dissertation for the degree of PhD (philosophiae doctor) at the University of Stavanger.

This defence will be held in Kjølv Egeland house, E-164 from 10 am. Everyone who wishes to attend the defence is welcome to KE-house.

The defence will be in two parts:

The trial lecture starts at 10:00 am. CET

Title: Discuss historical sociolinguistic methodology as it pertains to the standardisation of English: supralocalisation, dialect levelling, focussing, diglossia, etc.

The actual defence starts at 12:00 CET

Title: Studies of the development of London English based on late and post-medieval documentary evidence

Kenneth-Solberg’s thesis is publicly available in the UiS Scholarly Publishing Services
