Waste management system in Bangladesh dirty road side dust bin with unpleasant smell and hazardous health issue

Historically, Bangladesh, like many developing countries, faces significant challenges in managing its waste. While the formal waste management system in Bangladesh is growing, it is still largely dominated by the informal sector. This talk will explore the role of the informal sector in waste management in Bangladesh, highlighting its dominance, and the challenges and opportunities it presents using a case study of a southern city named "JASHORE", Bangladesh.

Mitu Poddar (she/her) is a 2nd year PhD candidate at Shanghai University majoring in Global Studies. Her research interest is the evolution of sustainable waste management in Bangladesh, a South Asian developing country, with a specific focus on the formal versus informal practices.
