Students who have vocal, piano or organ as their main instrument receive solid instrumental training from our experienced and talented teachers.
Students have many opportunities throughout their studies to perform in concerts in various contexts. The section has extensive concert activities on several stages in the Stavanger region.
The section for vocal, piano, organ and church music belongs to the Department of Classical Music, which is led by Bjørn Einar Halvorsen.
The classical accompanists also belong to this section.

Classical Vocal
The classical vocal environment at the faculty, with its highly qualified teachers, offers a study programme with an emphasis on both opera, lied and early music. The close collaboration with Opera Rogaland gives students unique opportunities for participation in productions with professional performers, directors and conductors. Annual Lied projects and work with early music repertoire are also important elements in the overall education.
Classical Piano
Classical piano students are offered a course with close individual follow-up. The highly qualified teachers with their background in the great German piano tradition emphasize in addition to the work with the main instrument repertoire also a close collaboration with the singers in annual Lied projects. Students are encouraged to develop their own repertoire profile and get many opportunities for concert performances in various contexts.
Organ and harpsichord
At the Faculty of Performing Arts, we offer several different studies in performing music with the organ as the main instrument, ranging from a one-year programme to ourPostgraduate Diploma programme.
We offer church music as a separate field of study on the Bachelor in Music Performance programme, a programme that leads to cantor competence. This is a practice-oriented programme offered in collaboration with VID University. In addition to interpretation and classical organ literature, the programme emphasizes broad performing skills, ear training, collaboration and improvisation. You will have opportunities to develop yourself in a dynamic and diverse professional environment. Through the programme, you will have access to several high-quality organs in various church rooms in Stavanger and the surrounding area.
You can also study harpsichord at the One-Year study programme, bachelor programme and the Extension study programme.
