PARTICIPATE - Parents and technology in digital bullying

Digital bullying is a big challenge all over the world. The PARTICIPATE project is looking at this research theme in relation to parents. The project will consist of a multi sectoral, interdisciplinary world class PhD programme. The programme consists of networking and exchange of information and competence about digital bullying in Europe.

Project Title

Participate - Parents and Technology in Cyberbullying: Intervention and Prevention for Future Experts.

Research project

PARTICIPATE is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie PhD network on digital bullying and parents.

Project goal

Teaching a new generation of 10 innovative researchers at an early stage (ESR) in inter sectoral research skills, to secure them a better position for employment in both the public and private sector, and make a significant contribution to the development of policy and practice when it comes to parent-focused prevention and intervention of cyberbullying

Dublin City University (Ireland), Aarhus University (Denmark), University of Turku (Finland), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) and Stichting International Parents Alliance (The Netherlands).

2022-2026

Funding

The project will last four years and has been granted 2.8 million euros by the EU. It is carried out within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie-actions under the Horisont Europa programme as a PhD network. Read more about the funding.

Who and what?

During the project 10 Ph.d.s will be active. Three of these will have their connection at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education at University of Stavanger.

In addition, a candidate must be recruited and work in the Netherlands, but be connected to, and supervised by, the University of Stavanger.

The three positions in Stavanger will excamine these three themes:

1) Digital bullying involving students with an ethnic minority background and the role parents play in prevention and intervention. Supervisors: Hildegunn Fandrem and Simona Caravita.

2) Develop knowledge about the consequences of digital bullying and the schools' measures/actions, also including parents. Supervisors: Simona Caravita, Hildegunn Fandrem and Ida Risanger Sjursø.

3) Cross-national comparisons of research on digital bullying involving students and parents. Supervisors: Dagmar Strohmeier, Hildegunn Fandrem and Simona Caravita.

The fourth position, stationed in The Netherlands, will deal with the theme adults (teachers) who bully children. Supervisor: Hildegunn Fandrem and Simona Caravita.
