A unique type of Viking Age sword with spectacular ornamentation has been found in Stavanger. The closest parallel is a sword from the island Eigg in Scotland found in a grave from the 800s.
The industry of aquaculture is a fast-growing industry. An international project from UiS will help solve sustainability issues in this industry by using economic theory.
The project will investigate beacons or warning fires that were lit during attacks on the country in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The University of Stavanger Business School recently submitted two applications to the Research Council of Norway to become Norwegian Centres of Excellence (SFF). The Norwegian Centres of Excellence scheme is the RCN`s most prestigious call. It allows scientific areas to organize themselves in centers to achieve ambitious scientific goals through cooperation and long-term funding.
Not all regions are like Silicon Valley, and not all universities can or should be like Stanford. Universities play various roles in regional restructuring and development.
A study showed that 15 % of the employees had high-strain jobs. Being female, having low education level, doing shift work and work outside the regular workplace increased the risk of having a high-strain job.
