As society changes, politicians need up-to-date knowledge of welfare services to be able to develop and adapt their politics.

Siv OItedal , professor at the Department of Social Studies

About

Welfare policy should ensure the population good living conditions, health and quality of life. When society changes, politicians need new and updated knowledge about welfare services so that they can shape a welfare policy adapted to a new era. For example, they need to know something about users in general and about vulnerable groups in particular. This is knowledge our researchers can help them with.

How will societal changes affect our welfare model? What kind of welfare system is best suited in the face of an increasingly pluralistic society? How do social workers within different welfare systems work with users and families with complex needs? These are some of the questions the researchers at UiS will explore, together with practitioners and external researchers, when they study social work and social politics in a local and international perspective.
