Applicants without study rights at UiS for the upcoming semester should apply through Søknadsweb.

The study right for single courses is only valid for one semester.

I wish to apply for courses on bachelor level

For courses on bachelor's level you must meet the Higher Education Entrance Qualification (including the Norwegian and English language requirements). Change to the Norwegian version of this website (at the top of the site) for the courses, the admission requirements and the application procedure.

When applying for single courses

When can I apply to single courses?

The application period for the Autumn semester opens on 1 July. Application deadline is 1 August.

The application period for the Spring semester opens on 1 November. Application deadline is 1 December.

I do not live in Norway. Can I apply?

Most courses are campus-based, check the course description. Students from outside EU/EEA countries, who need a study permit to move to Norway, cannot apply for single courses.

When should I submit my documents?

As soon as possible after you register your application, and no later than the application deadline.

Which documents must I submit?

That depends on the admission requirements of the course you apply to. You must document that you meet the admission (and language) requirements. See Documentation requirement for local admission.

What are the admission requirements to a single course you apply to?

Admission requirements to each single course can be found below under the relevant faculty.

The course which I want to apply to is not open for application. What to do?

You should have an agreement with a study advisor to take a course which is not listed as an open course.

To apply you must choose the correct faculty, and then add the choice "ANNET" (other). Remember to specify the course code and name in the field for remarks.

I need to take some courses to complete my bachelor's degree. Whom can I ask for help in regard to which courses I can take?

Contact the study advisor of the relevant programme.

Who gets admission? Are there limited places for admission to single courses?

All qualified applicants to the single courses which are listed as open will get admission.

May a course be cancelled?

The University reserves the right to cancel any course for which fewer than 10 students are registered. This applies to elective courses, not compulsory courses.

Is there a minimum required GPA (Grade Point Average)?

The minimum GPA for admission to single courses which are part of a master’s programme is C on the ECTS grading scale.

After the application deadline

When can I expect to get an answer to my application?

The results are usually sent in the middle of August for applications to the Autumn semester.

The results are usually sent in the middle of December for applications to the Spring semester.

I have accepted the offer. What should I do next?

After you accept the offer, you will get a study right. When you get the study right, you will have to log in to Studentweb in order to register for the semester, register for the exam and pay the semester fee.

How do I register for the courses?

In Studentweb, you will have to search for the course code in "My Active Courses" and sign up for the course.

When is the deadline to register and pay the semester fee?

The deadline for registration for the Autumn semester is 1 September, and the deadline for registration for the Spring semester is 1 February.

Why didn't I get admission to all the courses I applied to?

It might be that you did not meet the admission requirements or the course you applied to was not listed as open. If you are unsure, you can reply to the email you received with your application result in order to receive an explanation.

I don't want to take all the courses I got admission to, what can I do?

You only sign up for the courses you want to take.

The application deadline has passed, can I still apply?

No. The deadline for single courses is 1 December for courses in the Spring semester, and 1 August for courses in the Autumn semester. It is not possible to send applications after the deadlines.

Tuition fees for some applicants

International students coming from outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees, unless they qualify for exemptions.

Prices for single courses will be calculated based on the number of credits and which program the course is included in. If you wish to know the price of a course, please contact enkeltemner@uis.no and state the course code and name.
